How do people get jobs reviewing cars who have no clue...how?!

This video (made in 2012, not 1993) attempts to demonstrates the ability of the Subaru XV to tackle “an arena that might even trouble the archetypal Land Rover”

NOT PICTURED: an arena that might trouble the archetypal Land Rover

Other jems

[The Land Rover Defenders] “fully independent suspension” and its low ratio gear box “settings”

and the Subaru with its “Inline Boxer engine”

Why is it called the XV instead of the XV Crosstrek?

To be fair, the only arena in which a Subaru beats a LR is the arena of JD Power Reliability rankings.

Oh didn’t you know? That was the Defender Luxury. Those have had independent suspension since they were first released in 1913, right after Winston Churchill and Princess Diana decided the normal Defender felt too much like running into an iceberg with the Titanic. And it most certainly has gearbox settings. Operated simply by flicking a large toggle switch, located between the front seats, back or forth.

As for the Subaru, it has a boxer engine with two cylinders inline on either side. Their description was very succinct.
